German Strikes
Travel across Germany was severely disrupted due to strikes by workers from both the ver.di Service Workers Union and the EVG Union. And the impact of the industrial action could well spill over into today (March 28), according to European media.
According to Euronews, both Munich and Frankfurt airports cancelled all their flights for yesterday.
Frankfurt Airport’s operator, Fraport, said on its website: “Due to a strike by the German Union ver.di airport operations will be heavily disrupted at Frankfurt Airport throughout. There will be no regular passenger flights.” It is advisable to check with all airlines prior to arriving at the airport. Please take this into consideration when confirming travel plans.
France Strikes
Paris and most major cities – including Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux and Rennes – have been hit by protests. Most long-haul flights have been unaffected, but there has been some impact on short-haul European and domestic air traffic, CNN reports. Trains and public transport are where visitors could most feel the effects of the strikes.
“You should monitor the media, check the latest advice with operators before travelling, avoid demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities,” the FCDO advises. “The emergency phone number in France is 112.” Please take this into consideration when confirming travel plans.
